This is so, so, good! I have been coaching triathletes for 26 years, so I found myself nodding along. I always thought I would write down what I learned from my 26+ years of coaching when I retire, so I'm impressed by how cogent this is. Thank you for this.
My man! This is one of the best posts you've shared (a high bar). There's so much to go into. It's like a manifesto on being an athlete, being a coach (and being coached).
I think, that the biggest takeaway for most is:
"Avoid self-sabotage
Most talented athletes are not held back by lack of possibility. They are held back by poor restraint, distraction, novelty-seeking, hidden ego, and short-term thinking."
I think to all the people I talk to (especially myself), it's always been this little line that undoes the work (not yet on this journey but the battle is ongoing!)
I come away after reading that amped for training, simple, consistent training.
This was great , excited for the interview to come out (?)
A lot if not all he talks about here , Patience, Simplicity, Communication, Human pattern recognition , applies greatly to our work in Physio. Without all this , its gonna be flashy and on social media but the results are not gonna have the consistency and trajectory you are expecting to achieve in the long run.
This has to be the best article I’ve read in a long time. Although, I’m not an endurance athlete I am on a tactical team. This framework I believe works for that as well. I will be implementing the principles from this article into my training from now on. I’ve had so many thoughts on the points made in this article but never knew how to put them into words, and at times never thought simple could work. Very obvious it’s the way to go. Thanks for the article!
Thanx Chase! I am glad it resonated in the tactical environment you develop professionally. I had also interacted a lot with the law enforcement and military over the last 25 years and you can find many other applicable concepts in my writing; including many specific for tactical individuals and teams. As part of my journey I had been very close to this environment as well! DVC 🫡🤙🚀
Thanks for this great article. I recently wrote a piece for Endurance Master called Why Slowing Down can be hard. Not trying to self-promote, just agreeing with you that athletes have a really difficult part with Z1 training. Thanx for the input man! You are always good in getting the most relevant part of the piece⭐️🔝
If only it were so simple to apply in real life ;-)
Making the basics a habit is the hardest part and the most effective.
Noise is trendy, but it’s inefficient and expensive 🤙
Training to train!😍
